Jaipur Forts

Amer Fort

Set in a picturesque location, 11 KM from Jaipur on the Jaipur-Delhi route is Amer, the ancient capital of the erstwhile Jaipur State of the Kachhhwaha rulers. Its construction was started in 1592 by Raja Man Singh I, The spots worth visiting at Amer are the Diwan-E-Am, Diwan-E-Khas, the Sheesh Mahal with exquisite mirror work, the Sukh Niwas, the Shila Mata Temple and Jagat Shiromani Temple with exquisite carving work on the Toran Dwar and the well laid out garden, Kesar Kyari (Mohan Bari).

Amer constructed over a period of two centuries is a facinating blend of Hindu and Muslim architecture and even today it is a formidable edifice easily accessible on foot, by car or jeep or in the royal style - on an elephant back.

Timings 0900-1700 hrs.

Nahargarh Fort

The Tiger Fort as it is called was built in 1734, is less ornate but the decorative motifs in some of the rooms are delightful. From the windows of one of the suites one gets a stunning view of the complete city, with the geometrical layout. It was here that a former maharaja imprisoned his favourite dancing girl.

Timings 1000-1800 hrs.

Jaigarh Fort

The Fort of victory is one of the few military structures of medieval India. Jai Ban, the largest cannon in the country whose one cannon ball weighed 100 Kilograms is preserved here. Open from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. daily.

Timings 0900-1700 hrs.

Now this palace has been converted into a Heritage Hotel. Luxurious tent accommodation is available with a lovely garden and pool 3 km away from Samode Bagh.
